Swedish Massage

The most common type of massage, based on Western concepts of anatomy and physiology. Therapist lubricates the skin with massage oil and performs various massage strokes, ranging in depth of pressure. Therapists utilize this type of massage to stimulate circulation, release tight muscles, restore range of motion, and relieve pain.

Prenatal Massage

A variation of Swedish massage tailored to the pregnant body and a complementary choice for prenatal care. Therapists utilize this type of massage to reduce stress on weight-bearing joints, decrease muscle tension, and encourage blood and lymph circulation.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

A modality which involves the therapist performing assisted stretching techniques with a patient on the treatment table. Comfortable straps help stabilize the limb or part of the body that is not being stretched in order to facilitate complete relaxation and enhance the effectiveness of the stretches. Therapists utilize this type of massage to help clients with chronic pain and mobility issues. Clothes that allow for stretch and movement are required.

Lymph Drainage

A modality which encourages the natural drainage of the lymph, carrying waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. Very light pressure and rhythmic circular movements are used to stimulate lymph flow. Therapists utilize this type of massage to maintain proper function of the immune system and to reduce inflammation in the body.
Note: If you are experiencing post-surgical edema, you will be referred to the Lymphocare Centre in Toronto.
